Being thankful can be therapeutic. It is being present in every moment and taking the opportunity to be appreciative. There is always something to be thankful for. We are not always happy about parts of our bodies, but if we take the time to look at the whole picture we would see that we need all of our individual parts to be able to function as a whole human being.
We might not get the job, or we might get sick, or someone might die, but in the midst of our sorrow there are reasons to be thankful. Just the simple act of breathing is worth being thankful for. Being alive at this present moment is worth being thankful for. Being thankful is worth striving for.

I totally agree with you. I was once taught that depression and gratitude cannot co-exist and I think that is true. It is amazing how much better people will feel if they focus on things they are grateful rather than on negativity. In order to heal we may have to go into all the pain of our past and present, but it is for the purpose of releasing that pain so that we can be in the present.
