Most of us would agree that love acts with the best of intentions at all times. It is never manipulative or self serving. Love soothes, love uplifts, love inspires. Where there is love there is peace, harmony and total bliss. Love is our highest calling.

This is a great way to determine if “it” is love. Is it soothing? Is it uplifting? Is it inspiring?

That does seem to represent our idealized vision of romantic love. But how about parental love and sibling love, when sometimes love with the best intentions is quite outside “peace, harmony and total bliss” because the goals and personal desires of the people involved don’t match?
